The Adjustment Bureau Review

Movie Description (courtesy www.imdb.com)

Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us? Matt Damon stars in the thriller The Adjustment Bureau as a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he's ever loved across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York. On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt)-a woman like none he's ever known. But just as he realizes he's falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart. David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself-the men of The Adjustment Bureau-who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path... Written by Universal Pictures

The Female Perspective (Keyona's Review)

As always I love seeing Matt Damon in new movies, so I was pretty excited about The Adjustment Bureau. I’m still not sure on how much I actually liked the movie. At first I thought it was going to be another movie mostly like Inception with another love story. By the commercials I really had no idea what to expect about the film. That being said, the love story was really good and romantic! (Just what I love) “The affair between a politician and a ballerina is affected by mysterious forces keeping the lovers apart.” (imdb.com). that’s the perfect way to sum up the movie. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt’s chemistry helped keep the movie going. I don’t think I’ve seen Damon be so charming and lovable. The love story is what kept the movie going for me.

The overall story didn’t tell me enough information about why the Adjusters wanted to keep the lovers apart or why they controlled other people’s destiny. What did they care if they fell in love and things got a little off track. This is the kind of movie I would rather rent it than have seen it in the movie theater.

I will give this movie 3 out 5 stars.

The Male Perspective (Chris' Review)

The Adjustment Bureau seemed kind of like Inception light, it was a movie for those of you that do not understand a Christopher Nolan movie. But that being said this movie will still leave you with more questions than answers.

By far the best part of the movie is on screen relationship between Matt Damon’s character and Emily Blunt’s character. They really seemed to work well together and the love story felt believable, which to me is hard to accomplish in movies. The love story really kept the movie going from one scene to the next. If there was not a love story in this movie to distract you from the questions being raised then the movie would have been totally different.

That being said it is hard for me to overlook the gaping holes in the story. There is a lack of explanation as to who these “Adjusters” are and how they go about doing the things they do. They try to explain themselves by saying they are of a Higher Power. Ok, so are you saying that you work for God himself, thus making you Angels? Now I have never read Adjustment Team by Philip K. Dick so I am not sure what was put in or left out by the writers of the movie but I left the theater feeling like I was owed an explanation. There are situations with doors and hats that play a very big role with these “Adjusters” that you need to see for yourself, and because I simply cannot give you a solid explanation of how they function.

All I can tell you for certain is that after going to see this movie I am seriously considering buying a sweet hat and when I find the right hat I want to turn a doorknob counter clockwise so maybe I can get some solid explanations from someone who knows what they are talking about. All in all The Adjustment Bureau is a solid love story with a lot of confusion spun around it. The love story does make it a solid date night movie it your lady friend is in the right frame of mind, and I’m sure she will be because come on Matt Damon is in it, but be prepared to be confused and a little let down by the ending. I would say wait for it on DVD and rent it.

Final Verdict: 2 1/2 out of 5

  1. Wow! That sounds kinda harsh! At least we know we can expect honesty out of the two of you. I still want to see it, though.

  2. Sarai will love it for the love story.

I'll probably go crazy for the same reasons Papa Wever did.

  3. I'm pretty opinionated about the movies I watch, so I'm sure people will like it. I however just need things explained to me. Thought the acting was great. Want to read the book to see if there are explanations.
