Limitless Review

(Courtesy Google Images)

 Movie Description
A struggling writer unlocks the full potential of his brain by taking a cutting-edge pharmaceutical, only to find that his newfound abilities have made him a target for some of the most greedy and dangerous men on the planet. Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) is an author without a novel. No matter how hard he tries, he just can't summon the inspiration to write a single word. That all changes when an old friend wanders back into Eddie's life, and opens his eyes to a powerful new drug called NZT. The moment Eddie takes NZT, his brain begins functioning at 100 percent, giving him the ability to quickly recall every event in his life down to the smallest detail, learn new languages in a flash, and harness the untapped power of complex mathematical equations. But when Eddie's supply of NZT runs out, the party is over. Of course, it doesn't take Eddie long to make a mint on Wall Street, and when he does, it draws the attention of Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro), one of the world's most powerful and prominent businessmen. With Eddie's help, Carl plots to arbitrate a complex corporate merger that will shake the establishment to its very core. Just as the deal is about to be brokered, however, some dangerous characters discover Eddie's secret and come gunning for his dwindling supply of medicine. Now, if Eddie can just endure the debilitating side effects of NZT long enough to run for his life, he may just survive to see another day. (Courtesy movie.com)

The Female Perspective (Keyona's Review)

Well Chris and I went and seen Limitless this week. I didn’t really want to see it but it was either this or Dairy of a Wimpy Kid and I think we all know Chris would not see that one! I’ll just put it all out there. I really didn’t care for the movie at all! I’ve seen Bradley Cooper in other movies and loved him but it just didn’t wow me. I just couldn’t get into this movie.  I would have to say if we didn’t pay for this movie and it was just on TV I probably would have changed the channel. This all being said the story was written well and I understood and followed along really good. It was definitely something different. But there was just a lot going at once and was slow for me. I do however think the actors all did a great job playing their parts. Everyone seems to fit their characters well.  Even though, Bradley Cooper is the only I really know of.  But again, I would just suggest everyone just rent this. Although some people may like it because who doesn’t want to see someone take a pill and make $2 million bucks in ten days!!!

Overall 2 out of 5.

The Male Perspective (Chris' Review)

I was actually kind of excited to see this movie, anything that Bradley Cooper has been is I have liked and I mean come on Robert De Niro! The story also intrigued me, take a pill and access more of your brain, the story could go anywhere from there and the previews did not really tell much about the story in depth.

The previews did not show much of the story because there really wasn’t much a story. A guy takes this super pill and lets him access all of his brain and if he stops taking it he will die, pretty much the story.
There just wasn’t a lot of depth in the story and there were parts of the story that felt like they were just in there as fillers. Such as, the Russian mobster who loans the main character money, I mean what’s his deal? I don’t know!

The acting was good in this movie, Bradley Cooper does a good job playing a nobody that becomes a playboy. We’ve seen him play the playboy type before, and De Niro does a good job as well. But even his part doesn’t seem to fit in well, he just kind of appears, nothing really explained, other than a meeting set up from a new friend and because Cooper’s character made $2 million in ten days.

I spent the entire movie waiting for an explanation.  I was waiting for someone to show up and tell him about the drug and what he needed to do, or just a legitimate villain or bad guy. Once I thought we were reaching that part of the movie and the main plot or issue was going to arise and we were going to find out how it was all going to play out, roll credits. Pretty disappointed with this movie, but it is doing well in the box office so who knows. I personally would wait for DVD or go see it at the Palace, or whatever your local $2 movie theater is called in a month or so.

The Votes Are In!!!

(Courtesy of Google Images)

Movie Description
Matthew McConaughey stars in this legal thriller as a low-rent defense attorney named Mickey Haller. Most of the time, Mickey barely keeps his head above water, representing low-life clients and working out of the back of his car. He thinks he's landed the case of a lifetime when he's hired to defend a rich playboy (Ryan Phillippe) who stands accused of rape and attempted murder, and eagerly accepts his new client and the massive payoff that's sure to come with him. But Mickey soon discovers that he's become ensnared in a twisted plot where no fee in the world is high enough to pay for the deadly workload, and his only hope of survival may just lay in his own skills as a long-practiced double-crosser. The Female Perspective (Keyona's Review)

Well, with the help of everyone who voted for this week’s movie. There was a tie between The Lincoln Lawyer and Paul. Chris and I deiced to see The Lincoln Lawyer and I will tell you I’m SUPER glad we choose this!! Matthew McConaughey was amazing (in my opinion). I love almost every movie he’s been in but most of them are sappy love stories and this movie wasn’t anything like that. McConaughey did a wonderful job playing a lawyer who normally represents “low-life” people and then gets offered the case of a rich boy (played by Ryan Phillippe). It was nice to see him in a serious movie without him taking his shirt off for every scene (although just like the other ladies we all like no shirt J). At first I thought it was just going to be a movie about him riding around in the back of his Lincoln town car, (also being his “office”) and be a lawyer to some clients that got in trouble.  I didn’t know that all of his clients would tie into the” big” case he was offered. It kept me on my feet wondering what was going to happen next. The storyline was really good in my opinion; it was both really serious but also had a lot of funny moments in it.

McConaughey and Phillippe did a great job working together in this movie. I haven’t really seen Phillippe in a movie so it was nice to see him in something I will remember for once. Along with the rest of the cast, everyone seems to play their part perfectly.

I would say this could be a good family movie for your kids and you if they are in jr. high or high school. I think the seriousness and funny parts well keep both age groups happy during the whole movie. It was my kind of movie and I know my parents would totally love this movie. Best movie we’ve seen yet! The Male Perspective (Chris' Review)

Okay so I have a confession, I decided on The Lincoln Lawyer because after the vote there was a tie between it and Paul. I chose it because I did not want to see Paul at all, don’t get me wrong I love Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead is amazing, just had no desire to see Paul and I really can’t stand Seth Rogan, even if it is just his voice. So I chose The Lincoln Lawyer and it turned out to be a great choice. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Matthew McConaughey really shines in this movie. I think people forget how talented he really is, at least I do. It seems that he gets on these romantic comedy kicks and stops making good movies. Well in this movie he reminds us how good an actor he can be. This performance is easily comparable to his performance in A Time To Kill where he also played a lawyer. McConaughey does a very good job of connecting with this role and making it feel very believable and real.

Also another surprising performance has to go to Ryan Phillippe. He played his role very convincingly, which is surprising because I recognized his face but I really have not seen much or anything that Phillippe has been in. He played his part very well and I would hope this gives him the opportunity to take on other serious roles.

The best part of this movie is its deep story. The Lincoln Lawyer is based on a book of the same name written by Michael Connelly. The story of the movie is very interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would all turn out. I’m a sucker for a good lawyer story, but this one was very interesting and put a different spin on it that I had never really thought about.  I have never read the Connelly book, but I hope that the movie did it justice.

On a small technical note there were two minor instances where the camera felt pretty shaky and that threw me off because I hate shaky cam movies. However it is in the beginning of the movie and for only about a minute, so no huge deal, just thought I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t throw that in there. Other than that, great movie!

Rango Review!

Movie Description (courtesy www.imdb.com)

Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.

The Female Perspective (Keyona's Review)

Johnny Depp is Rango!! I wasn’t quite sure if this movie was going to be a good Depp movie or not. To my surprise I actually really enjoyed this movie!  Johnny Depp in my opinion did a really good job as the voice of Rango. For being the only cartoon that I know of Depp doing he did a swell job! It made me laugh the whole time. It’s a very cute storyline of how Rango could survive the other side and ended up becoming a hero and saving the town Dirt. The cutest part of the movie for me was the owls that just randomly appeared and starting singing. The whole time they sang about how Rango was going to die because they didn’t think he would survive. But Rango proved them wrong. The only thing I think I have bad to say about this movie is It was a little more serious than I thought it would be, I mean I know a 6 year old would totally think Rango was a GREAT hero and he saved the towns people by finding out what the water problem was, but it has quite a bit of “adult” lines in it. Overall I would totally let my children watch it (if I had any) it wasn’t the best cartoon out there but I know kids would laugh the whole time, like they were in the theater and enjoy this movie!

Overall 4 out of 5 stars from me!

The Male Perspective (Chris' Review)

First of all I was super excited to see this movie. I mean, Johnny Depp as a sweet cowboy lizard! Count me in! I have to say that I was surprised at the seriousness of this movie. It is a cartoon but it definitely felt like a more serious movie than that. I would say that if you have teenagers they will enjoy this movie, if you have children younger than that they will probably enjoy the movie for the simple fact that it is a cartoon, but will probably have a hard time understanding some parts of the movie, then again I could be wrong, I’m not 6.

By far the best part of this movie is the voice acting. Johnny Depp really shines as Rango, you can almost see Johnny Depp acting instead of a computer animated lizard. The other voice acting was also well done, each voice matched the animal that they were portraying. But Johnny Depp really makes this movie shine, someone else doing the same script really would not have given Rango justice.

The animation in this movie was simply amazing. Every time I see a new DreamWorks or Pixar movie it just blows me away how good the computer animation is, there were many times during the movie that the scenery looked real.

The story itself was a typical cartoon western movie story. The protagonist has come to save the day. However it was refreshing for me because the story really felt like Fievel Goes West, which I had not thought of in a really long time so that was nice.

All in all Rango is a good family movie. My cousin Andrew accompanied Keyona and I, he is 12 years old, and he said that he, “thought it was good.” I think every member of your family will enjoy Rango, it has a little bit of something for everyone.
