Rango Review!

Movie Description (courtesy www.imdb.com)

Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.

The Female Perspective (Keyona's Review)

Johnny Depp is Rango!! I wasn’t quite sure if this movie was going to be a good Depp movie or not. To my surprise I actually really enjoyed this movie!  Johnny Depp in my opinion did a really good job as the voice of Rango. For being the only cartoon that I know of Depp doing he did a swell job! It made me laugh the whole time. It’s a very cute storyline of how Rango could survive the other side and ended up becoming a hero and saving the town Dirt. The cutest part of the movie for me was the owls that just randomly appeared and starting singing. The whole time they sang about how Rango was going to die because they didn’t think he would survive. But Rango proved them wrong. The only thing I think I have bad to say about this movie is It was a little more serious than I thought it would be, I mean I know a 6 year old would totally think Rango was a GREAT hero and he saved the towns people by finding out what the water problem was, but it has quite a bit of “adult” lines in it. Overall I would totally let my children watch it (if I had any) it wasn’t the best cartoon out there but I know kids would laugh the whole time, like they were in the theater and enjoy this movie!

Overall 4 out of 5 stars from me!

The Male Perspective (Chris' Review)

First of all I was super excited to see this movie. I mean, Johnny Depp as a sweet cowboy lizard! Count me in! I have to say that I was surprised at the seriousness of this movie. It is a cartoon but it definitely felt like a more serious movie than that. I would say that if you have teenagers they will enjoy this movie, if you have children younger than that they will probably enjoy the movie for the simple fact that it is a cartoon, but will probably have a hard time understanding some parts of the movie, then again I could be wrong, I’m not 6.

By far the best part of this movie is the voice acting. Johnny Depp really shines as Rango, you can almost see Johnny Depp acting instead of a computer animated lizard. The other voice acting was also well done, each voice matched the animal that they were portraying. But Johnny Depp really makes this movie shine, someone else doing the same script really would not have given Rango justice.

The animation in this movie was simply amazing. Every time I see a new DreamWorks or Pixar movie it just blows me away how good the computer animation is, there were many times during the movie that the scenery looked real.

The story itself was a typical cartoon western movie story. The protagonist has come to save the day. However it was refreshing for me because the story really felt like Fievel Goes West, which I had not thought of in a really long time so that was nice.

All in all Rango is a good family movie. My cousin Andrew accompanied Keyona and I, he is 12 years old, and he said that he, “thought it was good.” I think every member of your family will enjoy Rango, it has a little bit of something for everyone.

Overall 3 ½ out of 5

  1. The fact that it reminded you of Fievel makes me want to see this for real.
