Male Perspective (Chris' Review)
This was the first movie that we have review where it was just me to go see the movie, so there will be only one review today. Keyona for obvious reasons is not into comics or comic book movies, she likes some of them but I don't think Thor would have been one of them.
Before I start I would like to state a disclaimer. If you are reading our little blog (first of all thanks!), and you know everything there is to know about Thor and have read all the comics that is great, but I have not. It is a comic that I actually never followed that much, I know who he is and the rough story about him, but I do not know how accurate the movie is with the movie so I will not be commenting on that.
Now onto the good part. Overall I thought this movie was great. I would say that this was my favorite Marvel movie to come out thus far. The world of Asgard was simply amazing, it looked great. To me it did not feel cheesy or look terribly fake, they did a very good job with the CGI that it felt like it fit in well.
They also did a very good job of explaining what was going on. I think this is very important because I am a huge comic book fan,but like stated before I don't know a lot about Thor. So I thought it was important for them to explain as much as possible, not just for me but for everyone that doesn't know about Thor or read a lot of comics. I thought it was very accessible for anyone who has not read the comic and just about anyone could enjoy it.
I thought the story was also very good. We see a god who has been banished from Asgard and we see his maturity from a "child" into a man that would become king of Asgard. I have read a few reviews that said the "humor" in the movie felt forced and out of place, but I disagree with that. I thought that it did not feel forced at all and that it seemed to fit right along and not take away from the story in any way.
The best part of this movie was the performance of Chris Hemsworth, Thor. He was simply great as Thor. The arrogance he showed was spot on. The only way for me to describe it was that he was Thor, when I think of Thor I think of just about everything that Chris Hemsworth did with the character, to come basically out of no where and take on this huge role and nail it is pretty amazing.
So I do have some bias with this movie because it is a comic book movie but I think just about anyone could watch the movie and may not love it but will enjoy it. I thought it was a great movie and the best Marvel movie to date.
4.5 out of 5
